Gén. au plur. Texte chanté (dans une comédie musicale, un film ou un spectacle) (d'apr. GILB. 1971). Le roman de Graham Greene sera transformé en comédie musicale (...). J.B., compositeur (...) a été chargé des «lyrics» (Le Figaro littér., 31 mars 1966 ds GILB. 1971).
Prononc. et Orth.: []. Au plur. des lyrics, prononcé [-ks] à l'angl. selon Lar. Lang. fr. Étymol. et Hist. 1923 lyrics (L'Écho de Paris 1/2/1923, 7a ds HÖFLER Anglic.). Empr. à l'angl., subst. de l'adj. lyric (empr. au fr. lyrique ou directement au lat.) désignant des écrits ayant un caractère lyrique (cf. NED), plus spéc. utilisé pour désigner des paroles écrites pour une musique (1876 ds NED Suppl.2) notamment, et fréquemment au plur., les paroles de chansons populaires.
